The Club regretfully advises the passing of one of its much loved player, coach, friend and former Committee man, Sokratis Mallios aged 51 years.

On Wednesday 6 December, after 12 months battling bravely Sok succumbed to the leukemia. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones and slipped away peacefully and without pain.

Sok was a genuine Club stalwart having played Premier League, Over 35A & O45A and who for many years was a big part of the fabric and greatly contributed to building the culture of our Club. Not only did he have passion for the game, he was a skillful player, fierce competitor and wonderful coach. He was also a first class administrator and since 2012 was the Executive Director of the SGFA where he was able to help improve, grow and plan for our game to be sustainable into the future.

We extend our deepest sympathies to the Mallios families in particular his wife and three children for their huge loss and to Sok's many friends who he played with and against since he started playing in 1971.

Rest in Peace dear friend.

In a masterclass of how to take your chances our AAE Mens team defeated a valiant and youthful Sans Souci team that were half their age in great style 6-1. Leading 1-0 at the break we knew first to score in the second half would win the game and the lads stayed focused and kept their shape restricting Souci and at the same time able to keep the pressure on up front where it counts. In the end the experience of old and experienced heads in the Carlton Rovers team worked cleverly to win the Grand Final. This team is like a Penfolds Grange, they just get better the older they become.

In an epic and tense game versus the Minor Premiers Forest Rangers the young legs in Carlton Rovers team worked tirelessly to win the Grand Final with the two best teams battling out another tense and exciting match played in front of a large and vocal crowd. After going down 1 nil midway through the 1st half we dug deep and kept playing our football but without reward. Displaying some gritty effort and composure we stepped up and played out of our skins as we piled on massive pressure early in the second half that we got an equaliser. The CRFC girls were on a roll with the run of the game going our way we scored the second and game winning goal. 2-1 to Carlton.

This was a special win against a very good opponent  that made us play the game of our lives. Well done to all the players.

Also we need to congratulate and commiserate our other Grand Finalists that despite best efforts were unable to claim the victory. We are very proud of you all.

AAB U21 team that played a mighty game going down 4-2 to Lugarno in a high quality match that was only decided in the last 10 minutes. Good luck for the Champions of Champions series.

AAC 2  team that fell behind 3-0 in the first 20 minutes making it very hard. To their credit the lads didn't give up and battled hard to get back into the game but it wasn't to be losing to Hurstville Glory 4-1

Carlton Teams in 2014 Finals

Carlton Rovers  vs   Scots        WON  3 - 2

In an entertaining game the leagues best two teams put in great and gutsy performances and wrote another chapter in their long history of epic matches. This mighty Carlton side was not going to let go of this opportunity and took the challenge to its highly skilled opponents with an entertaining style of open football that thrilled the crowd. Despite going a goal down early, we responded with some crash and bash and then dominated large sections of play where we managed to claw the game back to 1 all after a great free kick from Spiro Hantzis (Lionel). The half time speech noted a good start was required and we did that with some great play leading to a high speed raid down the flank where Lionel delivered the perfect cross for a rampaging Michael Lardis (Bruiser) to score with an emphatic header to take us into the lead. With 20 minutes to go we lost our way and panicked a bit and our opponents didn't need an invitation with their skilled midfield launching attack after attack which resulted in a them scoring and making it 2 all. However, this is where that special Carlton Rovers spirit came to the fore as we lifted for the last 10 minutes and launched our own raids resulting in a great cross from John Skyllas (The Alchemist) finding Joe di Meglio (Mr Juventus) in the centre who slotted in our third and ultimately the match winning goal. In a frantic last 5 minutes we repelled the onslaught with scampering defence to keep Scots at bay.

The final whistle was sweet for all the lads. There were many fine performances with the defensive structure holding tight against the most formidable attack over the last 10 years, the mids lead by that Terror Palapanis always searching for open spaces and the forwards who kept the Scots defence busy. It was a great squad effort all year as we all rotated through and supported each other.

A big thank you to our Supacoach (Sok) for arranging our shirts, shorts, socks, beers & undies all year long and off coarse to all our families and supporters that follow us around for 20 weeks of the year, players from other Carlton teams and the many friends from others Clubs that turned up and made it such a special night.

Carlton Rovers has lifted the Bianca Cup in 2014. This trophy was struck as a friendship preseason tournament between Carlton Rovers & Miranda Magpies to honour the tragic loss of a much loved daughter of a former PL coach known to many at both Clubs.

The annual Gala Day with our good friends at the Magpies was run on Sunday 16 March. The crowds were entertained by some highly competitve games that were played in great spirit. At the end of the tournament the Carlton teams including our WPL, O45A, AAB 1 & R, AAA 1 & R had performed very well with no lossses recorded.

On behalf of the two great Clubs we thank all the players and hope we all take some time to reflect on how lucky many of us are and to enjoy life to the fullest with our friends, family and clubmates.
