CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR AAF TEAM

GRAND FINAL WINNERS FOR 2015

In an epic and tense game versus a youthful and energetic Rockdale Raiders team the experience of old heads and young legs in Carlton Rovers team worked tirelessly to win the Grand Final and the two best teams didn't disappoint a vocal crowd. After going down 1 nil to an early penalty, we dug deep and kept playing our football with some great switching of the play and penetrations that kept the Raiders backpedaling for the rest of the game.

It seemed like we had no luck as chance after chance went by the wayside and instead of getting frustrated we kept our heads and got a goal back via our own penalty as "Jack" scored midway through the second half and then we camped in their half searching for the winner which came in the last minute of the game from our big man Pat who headed on the far post to send a large and ecstatic crowd into raptures.

A special feature of this team was the father & son combos which will be remembered for a long time. Also, good to see Joe D & John M win back to back Grand Finals in two different divisions, O45A last year and AAF this year.

2014 Teams

  • Premier League - 1st & Res Grade Squad
  • All Age A - 1st & Res Grade Squad
  • All Age B - 1st & Res Grade Squad
  • Womens Premier League - inaugural competition
  • Over 45A
All Age A - Reserve grade made the semis for the upteenth time in a row. The old stalwarts never give up and continue to chase much younger and swifter opponents by using their experience and skills. After an epic semi final versus the Minor Premiers Ramsgate that finished an unbelievable 7 - 7 draw after extra time, they were forced to play the major final against a young and rampant Carss Park side that sadly beat the old boys 3-0 and eventually won the Grand Final. The Club is continually astounded and supportive of the AAA Resies who one day will go straight into O45!

Womens Premier League - 2014 was the SGFA's inaugural season for an elite womens league. CRFC fielded another strong team that finished second and was a consistent front runner during the season. Hampered by shift work and scheduling the girls would of blitzed with their full compliment during the semis where they were valiant and tried hard to go through. This was a very successful campaign with the standard of football very high and can only get better as the league develops.

O45A - Grand Final Champions - winning 3-2 against good mates and long time rivals Scots FC, this victory was a reversal of the 2013 GF and was long overdue and well deserved (if we say so ourselves). The consistency shown during the season and solid form was maintained in the Finals Series where CRFC were able to lift the coveted trophy. Well done to all.

Congratulations to all our teams that played their Grand Finals. Unfortunately we were unable to win the big games but gave it everything right up to the last minute.

Results as follows:

Friday - AAA Res  vs  Arncliffe Aurora      Lost 2-0

As the season's best performing team Carlton were heavy favourites to lift the crown for successive years but injuries and work commitments before the game hurt our chances big time. The much younger Arncliffe came out full of run and got a quick jump on us to snag 2 early goals. However the big crowd knew never rule this Carlton team out as our boys had the ability to turn a game on its head. We battled bravely right to the end looking for a way back into the game but were unable to find the goals that were needed. Congratulations to Arncliffe.

Saturday - Premier League 1st Grade    vs  Connells Point      Draw 1-1

Lost on Penalties  6-5

The two top teams of 2013 didn't disappoint with an absolutely epic and torrid encounter full of drama, chances and end to end action. After conceding early, Carlton clawed their way back into the match with a goal to Adam D and then the biggest arm wrestle was on as no team gave an inch. Even in extra time both teams had opportunities to win the game but brilliant defence epitomised by an incredible display by our keeper Shane thwarted every attack and increased the tension as a vocal crowd urged both teams to break the deadlock. Finally, it took an equally dramatic penalty shoot out lottery with saves and misses to decide the title and separate the two teams. After 9 penalties each Connells emerged with the winning kick to take out game. Well done to all players from both teams.

The Club congratulates and thanks all the PL Squad players and our Coaches David Z & Warren M for their hard work this year. We look forward to improving again in 2014.

Sunday - O45A  vs  Scots     Lost 3-2

Wow, what a game by two very good teams that showcased some of the finest talent in our district that defied their age turning back the clock to the glory days. After weathering the early storm, Carlton struck with a super goal from Spiro after a deliberate and well place through ball by PF. This silenced our opponents as we were now on a roll and maintained pressure. The second half continued to be tense but Scots had to gamble everything and pushed hard to get back into the game and finally their pressure got them a goal. We responded to retake the lead with a well taken header by Joe D and it looked like we were in for something special. With 10 minutes to go, Scots classy attack countered and finally found a way past our defiant defence to score an equaliser and then just as it looked like going into extra time, another lethal finish secured our fate.
